Content

Would you like to deliver presentations that are not only clear and professional but also memorable and engaging? 
This course helps doctoral students and postdocs strengthen their fluency, pronunciation, and presentation skills in English to prepare for conference talks, seminars, thesis defences, and other academic situations. The course content will be tailored to the participants’ needs and wishes and may include the following topics: 

  • Structuring presentations effectively;
  • Expanding academic and presentation-related vocabulary;
  • Improving pronunciation and avoiding common grammatical errors;
  • Using intonation to convey meaning and engage the audience;
  • Avoiding common presentation pitfalls;
  • Preparing for and handling questions following presentations. 

Participants will have the opportunity to give short presentations in a supportive setting and receive constructive feedback from the instructor and other participants.

TrainerDr Pamela Heidi Douglas
Trainer?s backgroundPamela Heidi Douglas is a lecturer at Paderborn University and a native English speaker. Originally from Canada, she has studied and taught English in countries across Europe, North America, and Africa. After completing her Ph.D. at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Heidi began teaching English courses at Paderborn University in 2018. She also has worked as a proofreader and editor of academic manuscripts and texts for over ten years.
