Applicant groups
Not all those who acquired their University Entrance Qualification abroad and would like to participate in a program at Paderborn University, must apply via the online application portal of Paderborn University. It depends on the desired course of study and/or their nationality. You can find an overview in the following information.
If you are a citizen opdf the European Union, or in case that you don't have a German citizenship, but have received your university entrance qualification from a German school inside or outside of Germany, please apply directly via the online portal of the admissions office. (Please initially supply a grade of 4,0; follow further instructions by email after registration in the online system.)
(Exceptions: Uni-Assist-Subject Programs)
If you are not a German or EU citizen and did not obtain your university entrance qualification at a German school, please proceed as follows:
1. Please first check the list of Uni-Assist degree programs to see whether the application for your desired degree program must be made via Uni-Assist. When applying via the Uni-Assist online portal, please select the following after logging in: Application - Universities (Master) - North Rhine Westphalia - Paderborn.
2. If the degree program is not on the list of degree programs which require prechecking with Uni-Assist, please apply for a preliminary examination (Vorprüfungsbericht) of your school and/or university certificates. You can then apply directly via the Paderborn University application portal during the application phase with the preliminary examination report. It is not possible to apply without the document “Vorprüfungsbericht”. Unfortunately, applications sent by e-mail cannot be processed.
Provided you still need to acquire the required German language skills, you can initially, no matter your nationality, apply for a German preparatory course at the International Office. (Question 11, Application for Admission).
During the German preparatory course, registered course participants apply for the degree program via PAUL. Further information for course participants here.
Note: Please have in mind that for Master's degree programs, further documents relating to your degree program (e.g. module handbook or a program description) are required. Please make sure to inform yourself in advance! The admission requirements for the individual degree programs can be found in our study offer.
For information regarding the admission procedure, please check the webpage of the International Foundation College.
An application for enrollment as PhD student is at all times possible - on the other side the full semester fee will be falling due for enrollment. Before the application you should have successfully clarified the acceptance as Phd student with a professor of Paderborn University. With an attestation about this acceptance and the other necessary documents you are able to apply directly to the International Office.
If your desired degree program is not subject to Uni-Assist, please apply for a preliminary examination of your school and/or university certificates with the “Application for university entrance examination” (?Antrag zur Prüfung des Hochschulzugangs“). You can then apply directly via the Paderborn University application portal during the application phase with the preliminary examination report. It is not possible to apply without the preliminary examination report.
