International Tuesdays
Internationalisation at Paderborn University is a cross-sectional task and cannot be successful without the effort, energy, and enthusiasm of a great variety of units and people. However, daily tasks often do not leave enough time for an exchange with students or colleagues who may be working in different fields or on entirely different projects.
The event series “International Tuesdays” wants to overcome this. Since the summer semester of 2021 it brings together members of Paderborn University during lunchtime, to present their work or best practices and talk about their ideas and experiences in a casual environment.
When and where do the events take place?
During the lecture period, we offer events on several Tuesdays between 1 and 2 pm, aiming at all interest groups at UPB (students, researchers, lecturers, administrative staff) depending on the individual topic. Students and teachers, researchers and staff, colleagues and those who are generally interested in international topics, are invited to listen, share, and discuss! Usually, the events take place virtually via Zoom.
Please note that one face-to-face event will be offered in the summer semester 2025: On 8 July, the Welcome Services invite you to an information event on the topic of “Hosting Scholars and Students at Risk” in room N1.399.
All other events will take place as usual at 1 pm via Zoom. The link can be found on this website in the right column.

Overview Summer Semester 2025
Contact | Dr. Johanna Flore, Audit HRS4R Coordinator |
Description | In February 2025, Paderborn University was awarded the ‘HR Excellence in Research Award’. With this award, the European Commission recognises universities and research institutions that systematically work to improve the working conditions of their researchers. As part of this HRS4R (Human Resources Strategy for Researchers) process, the University has defined six strategic areas for action and developed specific measures, for example to promote career development or improve the supervision and management culture. In order to further enhance the visibility of Paderborn University as an attractive place to work for international researchers, the measures also focus on the expansion of bilingualism in various areas at UPB. During the event, the HRS4R coordinator will provide an overview of the process at UPB and present the initiatives and measures that have been launched as part of HRS4R to further strengthen the framework conditions for researchers at this University. Take this opportunity to find out more about the HRS4R process, ask questions and learn how you can support it. Further information on the HRS4R process at Paderborn University can be found here. |

Contact | Aminah Schneider, Welcome Services, International Relations Office Volker Verhoff, Coordinator for Refugee Students, International Office |
Description | Numerous researchers are exposed to severe and persistent threats in their countries of origin as a result of acute crisis situations. In light of this, it is of particular importance that internationally engaged institutions such as Paderborn University actively promote opportunities for academic reorientation. Since 2019, Paderborn University has been committed to supporting at-risk scholars in the spirit of academic freedom. The positive experiences gained in this context reaffirm the University’s resolve to continue and strengthen its engagement in this important area. Against this background, the Welcome Services cordially invite all interested staff members, especially potential mentors, to an information event that will provide deeper insight into the situation of at-risk researchers hosted at Paderborn University. The event will offer an overview of selected funding and fellowship programmes—most notably, the University’s involvement in submitting applications for the Philipp Schwartz Initiative and its participation in the (regional) Scholars at Risk network. Furthermore, the Welcome Services will present their support services tailored to the needs of this specific group In addition, Volker Verhoff, Coordinator for Refugee Students at the International Office, will present different funding programmes and support options for refugee students at Paderborn University.
